Depending on the time, Jay Paavonpera is an artist living in Brooklyn. He works what some would deem a normal, responsible job during the day, as the Public Relations Manager for Dior Homme. During the evenings though, Paavonpera enjoys an alter existence in his studio, creating mixed-media visual art. With a vested interest in the latter, Paavonpera presents everyday found materials to the viewer in a distinctive way, vaguely reminiscent of Duchamp’s “Bicycle Wheel” or other such work. In regards to his day job, of which design is an integral component, Paavonpera has a keen perspective on the direction of high fashion as guided by hip-hop and celebrity figures. The art of Dirquo simultaneously explores an abstract and hyper-real representation of graffiti. Emotive spontaneity, both an inherent product of the abstract expressionist movement and an integral element to the graffiti culture, is conveyed using a variety of traditional graffiti instruments in an attempt to capture the raw beauty of our urban environments.
