Jonathan Purday explores contemporary landscapes using his own holiday photos, domestic and local scenes, found journalistic images, and scenes remembered from dreams. Drawing upon personal moments, memory becomes the real subject as he works not from the image but from recollection; details become ’lost in translation.’ Jonathan Purday takes inspiration from the likes of films by David Lynch and creates almost Hitchcock-like scenes that are warped yet familiar. In 2004 Purday created the artwork for the Gomez Album In Our Gun and has shown widely in London. He was educated at Bath School of Art and is now based in Deptford, South-East London.
